Moses Weldon Foster, Sr.
On the morning of February 23, 2026, after an amazing, rewarding, and faithful life, Moses Weldon Foster, Sr. ascended into Heaven at the age of 92.
A devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and provider, Moses leaves behind a rich and enduring legacy. The son of Moses Booker Foster and Mary Foster (née Harvey), he was born in Farmville, Virginia. After graduating from Robert R. Moton High School, Moses matriculated to Virginia State University, where he earned a bachelor’s and eventually a master’s degree.
After college, Moses followed in his mother’s footsteps and began a career in education. He taught at Luther P. Jackson High School before being called to serve in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he returned home and taught at Cumberland County High School, where he was later promoted to assistant principal and athletic director and ultimately made history as the first Black principal of the high school.
After retiring in 1991, Moses returned to his lifelong passion: farming. He cultivated an array of vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, string beans, and lima beans. He was generous with his harvests and often hand-delivered fresh produce to his children and their colleagues at their respective workplaces.
Moses was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his beloved wife, Alma Foster; his five children: Lynee Foster; Moses Foster, Jr. and his wife, Monique; Marlowe Foster; Monté Foster; and Lolita Foster and her husband, Evan Schumacher; his five grandchildren: Kristiahn Foster, Noah Foster, Riley Foster, Skye Foster, and Augustus Schumacher.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at Oliver & Eggleston Funeral Home, 914 S. Main Street, Farmville, VA 23901, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 5, at 1:00 PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 349 Zion Hill Road, Farmville, VA 23901.
